I know people can be nervous
I am often reminded when talking to clients how booking in a massage can sometimes not be straightforward, especially a pregnancy massage. This can be heightened depending on a variety of reasons and experiences leading up to pregnancy and also what kind of bodywork you have previously had.
I am very happy to talk to people on the phone or in person and explain exactly what happens in the room and how sessions are performed.
Positioning is very important along with a detailed consultation to access clients and if any specific precautions need to be considered based on their pregnancy.
My recommendations are to always check someone is pregnancy trained. Actually massage is not very different but it is important to have a level of specific pregnancy knowledge for your clients safety and comfort and regarding products used.
If there was anything that prevented massage this would be highlighted at consultation so I cannot stress enough how amazing and wonderful massage is during pregnancy. The irony is it would help so much to alleviate any anxiety that prevents someone booking in.
The body is cared for and nurtured as it changes and it gives clients a beautiful breathing space to stop and catch their breath and think about themselves and their growing baby. Tension is released in muscles and the nervous system calmed.
At Greene Wellbeing sessions are generally between 60-90 minutes but we can just start with 30 minutes and take it easy to begin while you get used to massage.
We talk through everything and only massage areas you are comfortable with.
A full body massage is not always needed for relaxation.
Massage is performed in side lying, very upright seated with bent knees (a client favourite) and on a stool sat over the couch in late pregnancy for lower back work. These positions are very comfortable and allow massage to the full body including face and head although how we go ahead is discussed on the day, massage generally changes each session.
Please get in contact with any questions. If you decide massage is not for you then that too is great as you are deciding what is best for you but I hope this gives some comfort that it is safe and amazing and feels so good if you did want to give it a try. Natalie x
